Aquaponics/command-and-control

For absolute awesome-sauce, we automate the whole aquaponics process. Many things are monitored, and we have one command and control center that manages everything.

Contents

[edit] Monitoring / logging

[edit] Automated

  • pH of the fishpond water
  • Temperature of the fishpond water
  • Temperature of the greenhouse
  • Temperature of the compost heap
  • Water height in the fish pond
  • Water height in the flood & drain growbed
  • Power consumption

[edit] Manual

  • Number of fish
  • Average weight of fish

[edit] Command and control

We have 8 relays with power plugs attached to it. We can control the following items:

  • Water pump 1 (Fish tank to buffer tank on 1st floor)
  • Water pump 2 (From buffer tank to flood and drain growbed)
  • Water pump 3 (From rainbarrel to fish tank)
  • Automatic fish feeder
  • Water heater (for emergency temperatures).

[edit] Web interface

  • Set timer actions per channel
  • Make rules (if value on port X is higher then Y, run port Z)
  • Control the IPCam

[edit] Automatic fish feeder

We build a fish feeder. Depending on how log the feeder runs, we estimate the amount of fish heed we give. This way we can feed the fish exactly the amount they need, automated. Normal amount of feed is 2 to 3% of total weight of all fish. And thats why we need to enter the average weight of our fish. We sample few fishes once a week or so.

[edit] Fish Cam

We have a motorised IP-cam under water to live track our fish :) For this I am still looking for some transparant hemisphere to use as underwater case. (Diameter 30cm)
